Japanese Lacquer paper
Lacquer paper, made in Japan by artisans is also known as Kamakura or Wax Yuzen, and is a wax coated Yuzen paper which has been silk screen printed in relief, in a rich red and black colour. The paper has a raised pattern and glossy surface texture which gives a wonderful tactile feel to the sheet, not unlike an embossed paper. This unique process was originally designed to emulate the look and feel of Japanese lacquer. Japanese decorative papers reflect the superb craftmanship, design sensibilities and rich variety of the Edo Period (1630 -1868). Their archival qualities make these papers ideal for invitations, cardmaking, envelope liners, wall art, bookbinding, origami, découpage, jewellery, lampshades and so much more!
